Martha Zepeda is one of the leading promoters of traditional cuisine. She embodies a chef who builds authentic dishes through local flavors, while also actively promoting the tourism and gastronomy of Chiapas.
Originally from San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas, Marta Zepeda has been passionate about her state’s cuisine. She admires its diversity and its unique character in the world.
She studied gastronomy at the Centro de Estudios Superiores de San Ángel (CESSA; Center for Higher Studies of San Ángel) in Mexico City. While she was working on her thesis, which was the seed of her current success, she worked in an Italian restaurant in the nation’s capital.
In 2007 she opened Tierra y Cielo in San Cristóbal de las Casas in her native state based on the concept that she defines as “Cocina Coleta,” the cuisine of San Cristóbal de las Casas.
Among other contributions, she has promoted the conservation of nature, the culture of this city, as well as the preservation of traditional “Coleta” cuisine distinctive of this town.
